On the 16th of April, at CISOLAR 2019, the 8th International Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk outlined the country’s accomplishments and prospects in the field of renewable energy and solar energy in particular.
As the speaker explained, Ukraine’s effective legislation allowed attracting about EUR 2 billion of investments in the renewable energy sector over the past 5 years.

“There are more than 3,000 MW of renewable energy facilities operating in Ukraine now. Solar power plants’ cumulative capacity exceeds 2,200 MW (71%). More than 860 MW of renewable energy facilities were put into operation during the 1st quarter of 2019, 700 MW of which are accounted for by solar power”, said Serhii Savchuk.
In addition to favorable legal conditions, banks and international financial institutions are also active in the market. Thus, since the beginning of work with the IFC eco banking program, Ukrgasbank has provided over EUR 520 mln of loans for 146 projects with a total capacity of about 1000 MW. Solar and wind stations make up the vast majority of projects.
