Palestinian officials say about the opening of the first solar power plant in the country as part of a plan to reduce its dependence on Israeli power sources.
Mohammed Mustafa, the Head of the governmental investment fund, says that the new plant, opened in the West Bank city of Jericho, is one of four planned solar plants. By the way, one of them has been donated from China.
According to the official, the new plants are part of a long-term project aimed at covering about 30% of Palestinian power consumption. Now the West Bank’s costs for consumed electricity make up about USD 700 mln a year.
