Ranked the world’s No.1 for global inverter shipments 2015-2018, Huawei is keeping its leading positions in 2019

IB Centre asked several questions Yang Dong, Director of  Huawei Solar Inverter in Ukraine.

What have been the main achievements of Huawei in the renewable energy business sector in 2019?

Huawei has been ranked as No.1 in the world for global inverter shipments from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, we continue to take the leading position in the solar industry.

In 2019, Huawei achieves many PV plant with FusionSolar Smart PV solution around the world, such as Don Rodrigo 175MW PV Plant in Spain, Jalisco 100MW PV plant in Mexico, and 150MW solar farm in Japan.

Please tell us about your latest innovations and new products for the solar energy market.

In this year, Huawei released its innovative FusionSolar Residential and Commercial Smart PV Solution, as well as AI BOOST FusionSolar 6.0 Smart PV Solution.


The solution thoroughly integrates digital information technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) with photovoltaics. The smart string inverter has current of 26A per MPPT, which fully meets the demand for bifacial modules. The design of 9 number of MPPT and every 2 strings of MPPT get the advantage of industry’s finest MPPT granularity smart PV inverter, and yields increased by 3% compared to traditional inverters.

Smart I-V 3.0  

Huawei Smart I-V Curve diagnosis achieves carry out online I-V curve analysis on entire strings with advanced diagnosis algorithm, which upgrade to bifacial module scenario. The scanning helps to find out and identify the strings with low performance or malfunction automatically, which achieve proactive maintenance, higher O&M efficiency and minimize operation cost. Online I-V curve scanning on all strings of 100MW plant can be completed within 15 minutes.


The arrival of the SUN2000-3-20KTL-M0 smart PV inverters set to further fuel growth in the household, industrial and commercial segments with the product designed to deliver fast installation, ultimate safety and high reliability.

Arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) in SUN2000-3-20KTL-M0 three phase smart inverters enhances the safety of connected PV system from fire accidence. Inverter trips within 2s once arc fault is detected along DC power cable. AI technology such as self-learning is injected to the arc detection algorithm for highly efficient arc characteristics study, which empowers more accurate arc fault detection without faulty alarm or tripping. 

Which products and/or solutions the Company plans to introduce in the renewable energy market of Ukraine till the end of 2019?

185KTL inverter for utility scale solar plant, 100KTL-M1 inverter for commercial & industry solar plant,50KTL-M0 for residential or commercial solar plant, 3-20KTL-M0 three-phase residential inverter.

In your view, what are the main peculiar features of the solar energy market in Ukraine compared to other countries?

Most attractive FIT in Europe which allows investors to return investment in 5 or 6 years.  Loyalty of the legislation for Renewable energy such as VAT free for imported main renewable energy equipments.  This is the reason why we see so much international finance in this market. The government has clear strategy for renewable and energy independence, so we are confident in the future of solar energy market in Ukraine.

What is Huawei’s contribution to the world’s switch to 100% renewable energy in future?

In the intelligent era, innovation has become the core competition among enterprises. Huawei’s continuous customer-oriented innovation through digital information technologies, such as electronic technology, chip technology, computing technology, and AI technology, simplifies and intelligentizes complex problems.

The Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis and AI recognition enable the smart diagnosis for multiple components in various scenarios. The application of AI enables unmanned O&M of PV plants. One-click scanning of the Huawei Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis 3.0 ensures the scanning of all strings in a hundred-MW PV plant in just 15 minutes.

Bifacial PV modules + smart trackers + multiple MPPTs.Huawei abandons the traditional astronomical algorithm and adopts intelligent trackers and bifacial PV modules based on AI algorithms to achieve the integration of tracker control, power supply, and communication, maximizing energy yields. AI auto-learning enables the trackers to fit the bifacial modules better by optimizing the tracking algorithm, to track the deployment of digital solar.

Through digitalization, AI Boost Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution can effectively reduce the initial investment by more than 1 cents/watt, and reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) by more than 7%. This is a key for speeding up grid parity and benefiting our customers. With an open platform based on the Cloud-Pipe-Device strategy integrated with AI, Huawei joins hands with its eco-partners to promote the development of each industry toward intelligence.

Please share with us some plans for 2020 in the field of Huawei’s business in the renewable energy sector.

We are going to talk about new FusionSolar solutions and our next steps to improve customer experience. SUN2000-185KTL for utility scale scenario, SUN2000-60KTL-M0 for commercial scenario, 3-phase inverter SUN2000 -3-20KTL-M0 for residential and commercial scenario.

What are your Сompany’s expectations from the SEF2019 event in Kyiv?

With the launch of the new FusionSolar residential hybrid inverter line and the adoption of the new law on private solar power stations up to 50kW, for which Huawei is launching SUN2000-50KTL-M0 and FusionSolar management system, helping us to deliver our value and reach more market share.

In the PV field, Huawei hopes to further reduce LCOE by using AI to collaborate with digital technologies such as cloud, Big Data, IoT, and edge computing. In this way, the PV industry can be upgraded in a comprehensive and intelligent manner to meet the era of grid parity.
