The largest and most powerful solar power station of Ukraine, opened in Starozavodsk village, Dnipropetrovsk region, will start working at capacity in March. About 750,000 solar panels will generate nearly 200 MW of electricity, which is enough to fully meet the electrical power needs of two medium-sized Ukrainian cities.
The land was used for ore mining several decades ago, and this soil is considered to be unsuitable for agriculture. The project, worth more than $ 230 million, was fully funded by investors – the Ukrainian company DTEK and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) from China. The solar plant’s construction on 400 hectares of land lasted less than a year.
This new solar station is on the list of TOP-3 largest power plants in Europe. It is expected to bring about $ 20 million tax revenues annually to the Dnipropetrovsk region budget.
It is worth reminding that the Dnipropetrovsk region is a leader in solar energy use in Ukraine. In 2018, 13 solar power stations were installed here. Compared to 2017, their total capacity has increased 4 times.
