The KU Leuven researchers designed a solar panel that converts the sunlight straight into hydrogen gas. The invented system can generate up to 250 liters of hydrogen daily, which is a record-setting performance indicator.
“Twenty of these panels produce enough heat and electricity to get through the winter in a thoroughly insulated house and still have power left. Add another twenty panels, and you can drive an electric car for an entire year”, said KU Leuven researcher Jan Rongé.
Though the invention’s mass production has not started yet, its prototype soon will be tested in real conditions of a residential building. In case of success, the experiment will be extended to 39 neighboring houses.
